A Fine English white earthenware ‘Dutch-shape’ jug commemorating a trial for perjury that took place at Liskeard in Cornwall. Inscribed and painted with the cast of characters involved including Justice Jope presiding, the reverse with ‘Brabin at the Rum Cask’

The inscription reads: “James Richards. Gent. Fursdon. Liskeard. Cornwall. this jug presented to him by a friend.  In memory of that glorious day he proved by five respectable witnesses that fugitive Brabin wife & dafter perjured.  January 1st 1830. this jug to be fill’d annually on new years day”
